MUSCAT: In a first in the Sultanate of Oman, a medical team from the Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Department at the Royal Hospital, here on Sunday, performed the first gynecological operations using the vNOTES technology.
Dr. Thoraya bint Rashid Al Rawahiyah, Senior Consultant of Gynaecological Oncology at the Royal Hospital, said that the vNOTES technique is a laparoscopic surgery performed through the vagina to perform a large number of women’s operations, including hysterectomy and ovarian removal.
She told Oman News Agency (ONA) that vNOTES technique is one of the latest gynaecological surgical techniques and is done through the use of natural body openings such as the vagina.

“The process is quick, there are no external wounds, the patient feels mild pain after the operation and can return faster to normal life. vNOTES is hassle free and no complications like the patients who undergoes the traditional surgical methods,” concluded Dr. Thoraya.
