MUSCAT: Earlier this week, a report on Fragrances Market in the Middle East 2022-2026 was released which clearly stated that the fragrances market is poised to grow by $1.24 bn during 2022-2026, accelerating at a CAGR of 6.5% during the forecast period. How does it affect Oman?
Here’s how – Oman has been synonymous with luxury fragrances and why shouldn’t it be – aromatic fragrances are intrinsically linked to Omani life. It goes further than just frankincense, aromatic materials such as quality bakhoor (scented wooden chips), oudh (made from agarwood), powdered flowers, essential oils, crushed seashells, and others also are quite popular in the Sultanate.
If anyone who knows even a little about fragrances will surely tell you that Amouage perfumes are one of the world’s best-known luxury fragrances. It originated from the Sultanate of Oman and as exceptional as its scent, the story of how this traditional Omani perfume made its way into the world’s top fragrances makes for a fascinating insight.

Amouage was established in 1983, when Qaboos Bin Said, the Sultan of Oman, ordered Prince Sayyid Hamad bin Hamoud al bu Said to found a company to preserve the perfume-making traditions of Oman. He also wanted to have an authentic invaluable gift that would be given to the world’s leaders when they visited the country. (An ideal gift indeed!)
