MUSCAT: Oman’s former Minister Responsible for Foreign Affairs Yusuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah has been honoured by the Japanese government with a major award for his contribution to strengthening bilateral and friendly relations with the Sultanate.
Alawi received the Grand Cordon of the Order of the Rising Sun which is the highest Japanese honour awarded to foreigners.
Alawi, who joined the diplomatic service in October 1970, had been appointed as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs in 1982 and later became the Minister Responsible for Foreign Affairs in 1997 until 2020.
