MUSCAT: In the first quarter of 2022, the total number of job openings and the replacement of expatriates with Omani citizens in the public and private sectors increased significantly.
During the first quarter of 2022, employment opportunities reached 10,017, accounting for 29 percent of the planned number of 35,000 for the year. “Omani employees in the public and private sectors have touched 2573 out of 10,000 chances,” the Ministry of Labour noted in its quarterly indicator for 2022.
In the private sector, the rate of job possibilities created by replacing expatriates with Omani personnel reached 34%, with 5,434 job chances offered out of a total of 16,000 available. There were 1,806 Omanised positions for General Education Diploma (GED) holders, and 1,785 possibilities at the management, specialist, and technician levels.

In addition, the National Center for Statistics and Information (NCSI) reported that in the first quarter of 2022, the number of Omanis working in the private sector who are insured climbed by 8.1 percent.
In comparison to the end of the first quarter of 2021, the number of covered workers has increased to 275,529, with 31.5 percent of those employed in Muscat province.
The Ministry of Labour has also stated that a highly productive national workforce will enhance the labour market. It also reaffirmed that its intentions to replace expats with Omani nationals remain on track.
