MUSCAT : CureTech, an Omani medical manufacturing startup, has announced its first successful patient-specific PEEK cranial implant.

The project is led by Abdulmonem Al Lawati and Dr Khalifa Al Alawi, the co-founders of CureTech. The manufacturing and the use of implant came as collaboration and cooperation between CureTech and the department of Plastic Reconstructive & Craniofacial Surgery at Khoula hospital. 

The surgical procedure is done by an expert senior consultant craniofacial surgeon, Dr Taimoor Al Balushi, and his assistant Dr Moath Abdulhameed. The team has ensured that the design is neat and perfected.

The CureTech Lab has been audited by the Ministry of Health and has been ensured that it adheres to international standards of medical manufacturing such as ISO 13485 for Quality Management Systems.
 
Dr Khalifa Al Alawi, Chief Technology Officer, pointed out that the department of plastic surgeons treats several cases of craniofacial reconstruction annually. Defects of skull and facial bones usually caused by trauma, tumors or as a direct adverse effect of neurosurgery procedure.

Surgeons have long abandoned the use of conventional reconstruction with native bone. Currently, patient-specific implants that are manufacturing with cutting-edge technology are utilised for the reconstruction purposes.

Abdulmonem, Chief Executive Officer, believes in the necessity of localising medical technology that has an increasing demand around the world such as the patient specific solutions. This will provide better healthcare facilities in terms of efficiency, available locally and regionally with a competitive edge.
