MUSCAT: The Supreme Committee has allowed mosques in Oman to conduct Friday prayers with 50% of the capacity.

In a series of decisions taken on Wednesday, the committee also said employees in government offices will return to 100%. Earlier in the wake of rising coronavirus cases the committee had said only 50% employees to be allowed in government sector.

In a major decision the committee also said halls holding events (both local and international conferences) and activities of public nature can hold with 70% capacity. “With the need for the organizers to abide by the requirements set for practicing these activities, especially not to exceed 70% of the capacity of the venue for these events,” the committee said.

The committee also said the Ministry of Education will issue a statement on the decision of school education for the second semester in the 2021/2022 school year. The committee also emphasized the need for government and private institutions to commit to receiving vaccination as a condition to allow entry including malls, restaurants and other commercial activities, as well as attending cultural, sports and other group events.

The committee also urged citizens aged 12 and above to take the initiative to receive the third and booster dose of the Covid-19 vaccine. The vaccination rate according to the committee is “still low” reaching reaching 9% for Omanis, compared to 24% of expatriates.
