MUSCAT: Despite issuing warnings on COVID-19 safety norms by the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, some hotels in the country appear to have been brazenly flouting the rules.
In less than a week, the Ministry issued fines to at least 10 hotels in Oman for the violation. From ensuring physical distancing to mandatory checking of double dose vaccination certificates and limiting the capacity to 50%, a number of norms have been laid down.
“We are closely monitoring all the hotel establishments to ensure they follow the safety protocols laid by the government and the Supreme Committee especially in the wake of the new variant (omicron),” an official from Ministry of Heritage and Tourism said while speaking to The Arabian Stories.

Over the last few weeks, Oman is witnessing a significant rise in daily new COVID-19 cases. On Monday, the Ministry of Health registered 176 cases, the highest in many months. “We are seeing a rise in cases and it has become a concern and it is our duty to ensure the guests who are staying or visiting these hotels stay protected, the responsibility lies with the hotels to ensure they follow these rules,” the official added.
