MUSCAT: A court in Salalah sentenced an employee working in a furniture company to two months imprisonment and slapped a fine of OMR 3,700 for failing to provide the services as per the agreed terms.
In a statement issued the Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) said the Court of First Instance in Salalah issued a judicial ruling against the employee after he delayed the delivering of furnitures on time. “The consumer filed a complaint against a furniture company in which he stated that he had agreed with the company to purchase furniture at a value of OMR 4750. He paid an advance amount of 3700 to provide the furniture, but the institution breached the agreement as it was not completed on time and delayed the delivery. The concerned department at CPA began investigating the case and found that the accused did not comply with the agreement with the consumer, which is in violation of Article 23 of the Consumer Protection Law,” CPA said in the statement. However, CPA did not reveal the details of the furniture company.
“The case was referred to the Public Prosecution and in turn the court sentenced the person to two months imprisonment and a fine of OMR 3700,” CPA added.
