MUSCAT: The night movement restrictions including ban on movement of individuals and vehicles has come into force from 9pm on Wednesday.

In a decision issued last week, the Supreme Committee said it will impose night movement restrictions throughout the Ramadan period during which it has ordered a ban on all commercial activities and movement of people and vehicles between 9pm to 4am.

The sharp rise in coronavirus cases in the country has promoted the Supreme Committee to impose more restrictions during Ramadan which will start on April 14. The Supreme Committee has also banned Taraweeh prayers in mosques, which are the additional ritual prayers performed by Muslims at night after the Isha prayer during Ramadan.

Ramadan gatherings, such as group iftars and tents are also prohibited while all entertainment, sports, cultural and other activities will be suspended during Ramadan, the committee said in the decision.

Oman’s COVID-19 cases touched 174,364 on Tuesday including 1798 deaths.
