MUSCAT: Bouncing a cheque was the number one crime in Oman last year, Dr. Ahmed Said Al Shukaili, Assistant Attorney General said.
However, Oman witnessed an 18 per cent drop in the number of crimes committed in the country in 2020 compared to 2019, the Public Prosecution said on Tuesday.
While bouncing a cheque is still the number one crime in the Sultanate, the number of recorded offences dropped last year. Overall, the figures showed that 4,947 cheque bounce cases were filed in 2020. According to Al Shukaili, 2,753 Labour Law related violations cases were filed, while 2,584 expat residency crimes were recorded last year.

Al Shukaili said that the Public Prosecution recovered a total of OMR 24 million, most of them involved fines and confiscations. Al Khoudh division recorded the highest number of cases (2,206) and Bausher (1,841).
