MUSCAT : Oman’s Ministry of Heritage and Tourism strongly denied a fake news circulating about the partial collapse of the iconic House of Wonders (Beit Al Ajaib) in Zanzibar.
Oman is funding the restoration of the landmark project at Stone Town. In a statement issued on Saturday, the Ministry denied reports that collapse took place after the restoration. “The restoration was not completed and stopped since the beginning of the year due to the coronavirus pandemic,” the statement from Ministry said.
The Ministry said the project is being handled by an Italian company “that bears what is happening at the site as per the contract and the project has a comprehensive insurance coverage,” the statement said.

Ministry also offered condolences to two of the workers who lost their lives at the time when the building collapsed. The Beit Al Ajab is the largest and tallest building of Stone Town and occupies a prominent place facing the Forodhani Gardens on the old town’s seafront, on Mizingani Road. It is located between the Old Fort and the Palace Museum (and former Sultan’s Palace). It is one of six palaces built by Barghash bin Said, second Sultan of Zanzibar.
