MUSCAT: Residents who are stranded abroad for more than six months can return to the country after obtaining necessary approvals from the authorities, a top Royal Oman Police official has said.
Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, Brigadier Said Al Asmi, Director General of Operations said residents who stayed more than 180 days outside the country due to the airport closure can return.
Earlier on Wednesday, Major Mohammed bin Rashid Al Habsi, the Assistant Director of the Directorate General of Passports and Residence said the ROP has exempted the eligibility criteria and the residence status will remain valid even if the expat remains abroad for more than 180 days, taking into account the exceptional circumstances due to the coronavirus pandemic.

As per the earlier rule, residents were not eligible to enter the country if they have exceeded their stay outside Oman for more than 180 days.
Al Habsi also informed that those residents whose visas have expired but are stranded outside the country can renew it online through their employer or sponsor and can return to the country once the airport reopen.
