MUSCAT: The Supreme Committee on Tuesday expressed its concern over the rise in the number of coronavirus cases among Omani families.
In a meeting headed by His Excellency Sayyid Faisal bin Hamoud Al Busaidy, Minister of Interior observed that the family gatherings and close contact with infected patients are the reasons behind the increase in the number of Covid-19 cases.
According to a data by the Ministry of Health, nearly 70% of infected cases in the country are Omanis compared to expats. “The committee examined the noticeable increase in the number of death and infected cases, especially among Omani families as a result of the increase close contact with other infected cases and visits of citizens to each other according to the results of the epidemiological investigation,” Supreme Committee said in a statement.

“The committee expresses its concern about this increase, and calls upon all citizens and residents to exercise utmost caution and to abide by the precautionary measures that can reduce the number of infected and death cases,” the statement added.
Oman on Tuesday confirmed 1,389 new coronavirus cases, taking the total tally to 59,568.
