MUSCAT: The Public Prosecution have warned people against spreading fake news on social media including any misleading or false information on the discovery of a drug for coronavirus.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Prosecution reiterated that spreading false information is a punishable crime and can get jail term up to 3-years.
“Publishing false news, data, or rumors that could harm public order is a crime that carries a prison sentence of three years. This includes a false claim on the discovery of a drug for coronavirus disease,” Prosecution said.
