Omanisation targets set for fisheries and mining sectors

MUSCAT: The Ministry of Manpower has set Omanisation targets for fisheries and mining sectors for the next four years.

The Ministry has issued a ministerial decision specifying the percentage of the national workforce in these two sectors. The total percentage of Omanisation in the fisheries sector must be raised from 15% in the current year to 35% by 2024. According to the decision issued by Sheikh Abdullah Al Bakri, Minister of Manpower, the Omanisation percentage in leadership positions must reach 50% this year and must rise to 70% by 2024. However, Omanisation in coastal and commercial fishing activity must be kept at a minimum of 25% by 2024.

In the mining sector, the minimum level of Omanisation in private sector for the current year has been set at 25%, while it should be gradually raised to 35% by 2024. However, a 52% Omanisation target must be kept at leadership positions in the current year and it should be raised to 60% by 2024.

According to the circular, the decision comes into force from June 29, 2020.
