More than 4,000 expat work permits cancelled in Oman in a month

MUSCAT: More than 4,000 expat work permits were cancelled in Oman last month, Ministry of Manpower said on Monday.

According to a statement issued by Manpower, it received 4,467 applications to cancel the work permits in May.

“The number of applications submitted electronically on the Ministry of Manpower website to cancel work permits for the expats workers during the month of May 2020 has reached 4,467 in all governorates of the Sultanate. These include 4,332 requests for commercial permits and 135 requests for private permits,” Ministry added.

According to the data provided by the National Centre for Statistics the number of expatriate workers in the country decreased from 1,662,113 in March 2020 to 1,622,251 by the end of May 2020.
