MUSCAT: Oman will conduct test runs before “gradually” reopening its airports, Minister of Health said on Thursday.

Speaking to the media, His Excellency Dr. Ahmed Al Saidi said in the event of reopening airports, quick checks will be done. “We hope to resume the airport operations and in the event of reopening airports, quick checks will be provided for those arriving in Oman as well some test runs before we gradually open,” he said.

Oman had closed all its airports in March in the wake of coronavirus outbreak in the country. Currently only repatriation and cargo flights are operating in Oman.

According to Dr. Saif Al Abri, DG of MOH, five accredited private health centres have been given permission to conduct rapid testing for coronavirus for those who are travelling outside Oman. “We will be soon announcing the names of the centres and people who wish to travel can do testing and get the result in 45 minutes,” Al Abri added.
