MUSCAT: There are no immediate plans to cancel classes in the country, a senior Ministry of Education official stressed on Wednesday, after some parents expressed concern about their children’s safety even as 12 cases of coronavirus cases have been reported in the country so far.
Speaking to The Arabian Stories, a high-ranking official at Ministry of Education said it is working closely with Ministry of Health and other government departments. “We are closely coordinating with MOH and other key departments. There is no need to suspend schools as of now. Some parents have voiced their concern but this is a drastic move,” he said.

System-wide, the Ministry of Education (MOE) has implemented enhanced measures to reduce the risk.
Meanwhile, the official also denied social media rumours about closing schools for three weeks. “Even we saw but that is completely false. We have not decided on it,” he added.
Circular to schools
Ministry of Education on Wednesday send a circular to all the schools in the country asking them to suspend extracurricular activities until further notice, as part of the preventative measures to stop the spread of the new coronavirus.
“All schools must suspend all extracurricular activities within and outside the campus until further notice,” Ministry said in the circular which is available with The Arabian Stories.
There is a total of 12 confirmed cases in Oman. Two people have recovered, according to the health ministry.
