MUSCAT: Ministry of Education (MOE) has send a circular to all the schools in the country asking them to suspend extracurricular activities until further notice, as part of the preventative measures to stop the spread of the new coronavirus.

“All schools must suspend all extracurricular activities within and outside the campus until further notice,” Ministry said in the circular which is available with The Arabian Stories

Ministry also called-on the bus drivers to clean the buses regularly with sanitary sterilizers and disinfectants. “They (drivers) shall open the windows of the busses during transportation,” the circular read.

MOE has also asked the schools to conduct campaigns that include a segment in the morning assembly for tips on preventive measures to be followed to reduce the spread of infectious diseases.  “They shall put notices and posters in suitable places that are easy to read and follow by students, apart from social media and text messages to spread the culture of awareness and health education in the school as well as the local community,” the circular read.

“Schools shall find a suitable mechanism for the operations of the cafeteria that is appropriate for the density of students in the school, which will avoid crowding of students at the same place,” the circular added.

There is a total of 12 confirmed cases in Oman. Two people have recovered, according to the health ministry.
