MUSCAT: A motorist was arrested in connection with a hit-and-run incident in North Al Batinah, which left a cyclist injured, Royal Oman Police (ROP) said.

According to ROP, the driver fled the scene after hitting the cyclist. “We received a call that a cyclist had been found lying injured in wilayat Al Khaburah after he was hit by a vehicle that did not stop. We quickly moved the injured to the nearest health center,”ROP said.

The driver was identified and arrested by police within 24 hours of the incident. He confessed to hitting the cyclist and has been referred to public prosecution.

Fleeing from an accident scene is a crime punishable by law and may lead to jail sentence.

ROP appealed to all road users to pay attention and not be distracted by things that may cause a traffic accident.
