Muscat: Oman’s premiere cycling championship Tour of Oman will be held only next year, organisers have confirmed on Thursday.
The 11th edition of the championship which was scheduled to be held this year in February was cancelled following the passing of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said bin Taimur.
Though there were reports in the media that the race organisers ASO are reportedly planning to reschedule the championship to March 3-8. However, a top official at the Muscat Municipality informed The Arabian Stories that the championship “stands cancelled for this year.”

The race, first run in 2010, has established itself as part of the early season block of racing in the Gulf states, along with the UAE Tour and the Saudi Tour.
