MUSCAT: Oman’s Ministry of Health has rejected the figures reported by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) on HIV cases and issued a statement on Friday.
On Wednesday, NCSI reported there were 2,927 HIV cases reported in Oman in 2018. However, MOH has clarified that this is the total cumulative figure from 1984 to 2018.
According to MOH, there were only 145 registered cases in 2018, compared to 150 in 2017.

“Ministry would like to clarify that the total number of cases recorded in the Ministry of Health from 1984 to 2017 is 2,927 and statistics show that 1,597 cases, about 55% of them are still alive in 2017.”
“The number of registered cases of AIDS was only 145 cases in 2018, compared to 150 cases in 2017,” Ministry clarified.
