MUSCAT: A senior official at Ministry of Manpower has stated that news report by a little-known Arabia Today website, which claims that visa for workers from four countries are banned is factually wrong.
“It is totally incorrect. There is no such ban. Additionally, we at Ministry of Manpower cannot issue any ban. It is responsibility of Royal Oman Police. And we are aware that ROP has not banned any workers from any country,” a senior Ministry of Manpower official told in an exclusive interview with The Arabian Stories.

The Arabian Stories readers had forwarded the Arabia Today news report to do a fact check. And talking to the senior Manpower Ministry official, The Arabian Stories found that the Arabia Today is factually wrong to panic expat workers in Oman.

“The Arabia Today, even don’t know that its Ministry of Manpower in Oman and not Ministry of Labour,” the official said. While detailing about the ban, the official said: “Yes there is a ban but it is a six month one which is being extended depending on the labour market conditions.”
“Expats are not allowed to work in certain professions. It is to balance the labour market,” the official added. The Arabia Today reported that “Oman has decided through the Ministry of Labor forces in the country to prevent 4 foreign nationalities from work or residence in the country as well as the resettlement of 8 new occupations and the deportation of owners at the beginning of June 2019.”
According to Arabian Today website, workers from Bangladesh, Philippine, India and Pakistan will be banned from June 2019.
Additionally, without any proper comment from any government official, the story also details some change in fee structure too, which the Ministry of Manpower official denied.
