MUSCAT: Following a safety-related recall of certain Apple MacBook Pro notebook models, Oman Air has banned the carrying of these laptops in checked luggage.
In a statement on Saturday, Oman Air said passengers may still carry MacBook Pro laptops on flights, but only as cabin baggage.
“For the safety of our guests and crew, Oman Air has prohibited the carriage of older generation 15-inch MacBook Pro Models ion checked luggage,” the statement read.

Apple recently recalled a limited number of older generation 15-inch MacBook Pro models. Affected models were sold primarily between September 2015 and February 2017.
“Guests are to refrain from bringing the affected models in checked baggage. They may be allowed as hand-carry provided it remains switched off throughout the flight, protected from accidental activation, and not to be charged during the flight,” the statement added.
A number of airlines have already implemented the ban over potential fears of batteries catching fire.
According to Bloomberg, restrictions on MacBook Pro laptops on flights started with Qantas Airways barring some models from checked-in luggage in concerns that batteries of these could catch fire. On Friday, Etihad and Emirates also banned these carrying these laptops on flights.
