MUSCAT: The Ministry of Health (MOH), represented by the Mental Health Section in the Department of Non- communicable Diseases along with Al Masarra Hospital’s Training and Staff Development Department, organised a training program.

The program titled “Personal Safety and Aggression Management” was held at Al Razi Hall in Al Masarra Hospital. Twenty-seven primary healthcare providers from all governorates of Oman participated in this course.

The training program aimed to create a healthy and safe work environment by building a dedicated team capable of dealing with emergency psychiatric cases and violence using the latest methods.

This will allow for proper response following best practices and patient safety standards.

The program included two main parts: the first part represents the theoretical aspect and the definition of professional personal safety, its importance for staff and patients, and how to recognize signs and symptoms of hostile and aggressive behaviour.

The program comes as part of the mental health section’s efforts to enhance the primary health care providers’ qualifications, knowledge, and skills and eliminate the possibility of a workplace violence incident which will ensure the safety of staff and clients.
