MUSCAT : Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) Oman Chapter- sponsored by CBFS, held its 2nd Chief Audit Executive (CAE) Forum Meeting on the 29th of May at Hormuz Hotel Muscat. The meeting was held under the theme of “Internal Audit as Agent of Change”. More than fifty CAEs and Deputy CAEs participated in the meeting representing various organizations and industries. United Arab Emirates (UAE) IIA President Mr. Abdulqadir Obeid Ali was the keynote speaker and the Chief Guest for the session. The forum took place during May which is globally celebrated by the IIA as the month of Internal Audit Awareness.
Mr. Muneer Al Mughairy President IIA Oman welcomed the chief guest and Chief Audits. He shared IIA Oman key achievements and initiatives in 2021 and 2022. He highlighted the role of IIA in nurturing local talent for meeting market demand and appreciated the role of Capital Market Authority (CMA) in developing governance processes in the country which enhances investors’ confidence. He also recognized the need for further involvement of Internal Auditors with IIA through enrollment for Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) classes, keeping the membership up to date and attending continued professional education sessions that are offered by IIA.
The CAEs discussed the positive role internal audit performs in the face of fast paced technology changes and the importance of understanding the business operating environment and risk context to enable Internal Auditors to become change agents and trusted advisors for the organization.

A panel discussion was conducted where CAEs shared their experiences on the challenges faced during the pandemic and lasting impact on Internal Audit and other functions within the organizations.
IIA Board Members, Dr. Ali Rehman, Mr. Abbas Ali, and Mr. Shujaat Ali facilitated group discussions on multiple topics where participants shared their internal audit leading practices.
The CAEs termed the forum a great opportunity for networking and sharing of ideas. All the CAEs thanked IIA Oman for arranging the CAE forum. Mr. Muneer Al Mughairi expressed that the board of directors will work closely with all other professional chapters in Oman to enhance development opportunities for the members.
