Oman plans to launch digital currency: CBO Chief

MUSCAT: Oman’s central bank is planning to launch digital currency, Executive President of the apex bank said on Tuesday.

Speaking at the New Age Banking Summit, His Excellency Tahir Bin Salim Al Amri said work is underway to implement digital currency in the country. “Work is underway on introducing digital currency and open banking services related to it,” Al Amri said.

In the last two years since the pandemic, many countries are preparing plans to introduce digital currency which can lead to a more efficient money management system.

Al Amri also explained that the Central Bank of Oman is committed to supporting innovation and modernizing the financial sector in line with ensuring financial stability.
