Muscat: One Indian sailor is still missing in Friday’s dhow sinking incident in Salalah, sources claimed.
In a tweet on Friday, the Indian embassy had reported that 10 persons were rescued and only one is missing.
“An unfortunate incident of drowning of a dhow with Indian crew happened in Omani waters today morning. Due to swift action of Omani authorities, 10 persons were rescued and only one is missing. SAR operation is underway. Indian Embassy is extending full assistance to the survivors and will help them in repatriation. We deeply appreciate the timely support extended by Omani authorities in saving lives of Indian nationals,” the tweet read.

The Indian sailors, all from Gujarat, were rescued from the sinking dhow on Friday.
The dhow belongs to a company in Sharjah and it was sailing from Dubai to Somalia with 1,300-tonne cargo.
The dhow was damaged due to bad weather on Thursday.
In a statement issued by Oman News Agency (ONA), the Royal Oman Police ship Sadah rescued the sailors near the coast of Dhofar after the vessel reported engine failure and was sinking.
“The Royal Oman Sea Vessel (Sadah), in coordination with the Maritime Security Center, carried out a rescue operation in which the crew of an Indian vessel were rescued. The ship was subjected had its engine damaged and was sinking at a distance of four nautical miles from the port of Dhalkout in Dhofar Governorate.”
