Oman Weather: Shaheen downgraded to tropical depression, Muscat to receive scattered rainfall; heavy downpour, flooding in North, South Batinah

The impact of Shaheen will contnue to affect governorates of Al Dhahirah, North Al Batinah, South Al Batinah, Al Buraimi and Al Dakhiliyah with heavy rainfall and flooding.

MUSCAT: Tropical cyclone Shaheen has been downgraded to a tropical depression currently centered on Al Dhahirah Governorate, Oman Met said in the latest weather update on Monday morning.

In a statement issued, Oman Met said due to the impact of cyclone Shaheen that made landfall in Al Musannah and Suwaiq on Sunday night, Muscat Governorate will continue to receive scattered rainfall.

However, “it will continue to affect the governorates of Al Dhahirah, North Al Batinah, South Al Batinah, Al Buraimi and Al Dakhiliyah with heavy rainfall (70 to 200 mm) leading to flooding of the valleys with moderate to brisk winds,” Oman Met said. According to the National Centre for Emergency Management (NCEM) several people living in low-lying areas and those stranded in their vehicles were rescued.
