MUSCAT — Oman has extradited Sourabh Chandrakar, a promoter of the Mahadev online betting syndicate, to India following coordination between the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), other Indian agencies and Omani authorities.

Chandrakar was located and detained by the Royal Oman Police following an Interpol Red Notice issued against him, according to the CBI. Indian agencies subsequently submitted formal extradition requests supported by evidence gathered during their investigations.

He is wanted in two CBI cases in which chargesheets have been filed, as well as a separate Enforcement Directorate case in which a prosecution complaint has been submitted.

In a separate statement, the Royal Oman Police said its Directorate General of Inquiries and Criminal Research had arrested a suspect wanted by India in connection with fraud and money laundering cases after he fled to Oman.

The arrest followed cooperation between the Royal Oman Police’s National Central Bureau and its Indian counterpart, the statement said.

Omani police said all required legal procedures had been completed before the suspect was handed over to the competent Indian authorities. The statement did not name the individual.

The CBI acknowledged the cooperation of the Omani government and the Royal Oman Police in securing Chandrakar’s extradition.
