We cannot lose someone we love…

I cannot begin to imagine what he was going through and I am careful not to carelessly claim to understand his agony. Seeing him weathering these challenges was painful.

Two years after my pen was retired, today I am recalling it just for what happened last week. I have to do this; otherwise I would be betraying my heart. Last week I found myself in a somber mood; one almost unbearable. My lovely and friendly brother transitioned from earthly life. I struggled to deal with the fact of the passing of a great human being – a brother, a husband, a father of 4, a grandfather of 2 (one just in- she will not know what she missed) and a pillar of a greater family and a friend to all. Habeebi/ mudirlgroup/family focal point/founder of family aid, as we fondly called him, lost the battle to cancer that was diagnosed in 2018.

I cannot begin to imagine what he was going through and I am careful not to carelessly claim to understand his agony. Seeing him weathering these challenges was painful. Yet, I could see how he fought on with courage, a constant smile on his face, positivity, hope and his trust in Allah (subhana wa ta ala).

I struggle to deal with the grief and emptiness that comes with such loss. I know it will take me some time to recover from this shock. I am sure his wife, sons, brothers, sisters, relatives and friends who will continue to graciously hold the memory of this family man and a great friend.

He has rested from the pain that ravaged his body for three years and no longer has to deal with ill-health, suffering, all the pain and frustration he had to endure, especially in the last weeks of his life in this world.

And now that he is gone, I will continue to celebrate his life and his contribution to the family and to the community. I will oblige my heart to find comfort in celebrating his life. I tell my heart to find peace firstly, because he ceased to suffer from agonizing pain and intense discomfort and secondly, that he has moved towards the place of complete rest, bliss, felicity and delight. A place of exceptional happiness, peace and tranquility.
