MUSCAT: As Oman residents embrace the last week of Ramadan, predictions have already started for when the month is likely to end.
As per the astronomical calculations made by the Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs, there is a possibility for sighting the crescent moon of the month of Shawwal 1440AH on Tuesday if the skies are clear. Accordingly, Wednesday, June 5, will probably be the first day of Eid al Fitr.
“According to the calculations, the moon will be in conjunction phase at 2:02 pm on Monday local time of the Sultanate.On Tuesday, 29 Ramadan 1440H ( June 4. ), the moon will descend at 7:50, and the sun will set at 6:00 pm, which means that the moon will descend after sunset about an hour and four minutes,” said Ibrahim bin Yahya al-Ma’amari from the ministry as quoted by Oman Observer.

Eid holidays in Oman
Meanwhile, Oman announced Eid Al Fitr holidays for the private and government sectors on Tuesday.
A three-day holiday has been announced for the private sector, from June 4 to June 6, 2019.
For the government sector, the Eid holidays will begin on June 4 and end on Shawwal 3. The government sector will resume work on June 9, 2019. “Eid Al-Fitr holidays for employees in ministries, public bodies and other units of the administrative apparatus of the state will be from Tuesday, 29th of Ramadan, 4 June to the end of the 3rd of Shawwal,” added the Oman News Agency.
