MUSCAT: Oman has issued a new legislation to abolish the minimum wage for part-time workers, while the government has also cancelled the number of hours specified in the decision.
According to the new decision published in the official gazette, also allows Omani students “not less than 15 years of age” enrolled in public or private schools to work part-time during semester breaks with the consent of their parents.
The decision states that the wages and the working hours of the employees will be determined by both parties through a contract.

As per the earlier decision 40/2017, the hourly wage of the worker was set at not less than OMR 3, and the number of working hours was set at not less than four hours per day and should not exceed 25 hours per week. This decision now stands cancelled.
The new decision also states preserves the right of the part-time worker (student ) to obtain the financial allocations prescribed for him/her by the educational institution in addition to his/her income from work.
