MUSCAT: Motorists expressed their concern and anger over the rise in fuel prices after the government announced the new rates for the month of July.

Motorists will now have to pay 227 baisa per litre for M91 compared to 215 per litre in June, while they have to pay 237 baisa per litre for M95, compared to 227 baisa in June, while diesel price has been increased to 247 baisa compared to 234 last month.

Taking on to Twitter, several citizens urged the Ministry of Energy and Minerals to set a ceiling for the monthly price of fuel. “The pandemic is already costing us a lot and now this,” said Omani citizen Mohammed Al Jabry on Twitter.

An Arabic hashtag #Fuel_Price is already trending on social media since the new prices was announced on Wednesday.

“With Eid Al Adha is fast approaching and many family obligations, government must reconsider this decision,” said Abdul Hussein Al Balushi.

On Wednesday, petrol stations witnessed huge rush hours before the night lockdown, while pump attendants worked hard to manage the sudden influx of traffic. For the drivers, it was the last chance to fill up before the new price came into effect. “Government must review the decision especially at a time like this as it will hit our pockets,” Khalfan Al Kharusi said on Twitter.
