MUSCAT: With the Ministry of Labour raising the expatriate work permit fees, Oman’s Authority of Small and Medium Enterprises Development (Riyada) has issued a clarification regarding the decision.
In a statement issued, Riyada said the fees for recruiting expat workers for all micro, small and medium enterprises with an entrepreneurship card will be as following:
1. OMR 101 if the request is for one to five workers.

2. OMR 151 if the application is for 6 to 10 workers and with the requirement to recruit at least one Omani.
3. OMR 1001 for licensing the practice of work and recording the data of the employee to occupy the professions specified in the annex related to the decision taking into account the following:
a. 50% discount for establishments applying Omanisation rates
b. 25% discount for establishments that employ at least one Omani in accordance with the economic stimulus plan.
Riyada said the fees apply to new licences and to renew existing licenses. “The institution must have an entrepreneurship card. The facility should be for one institution only and not for other institutions owned by the owners of the institutions,” the statement said.
On June 1, the Ministry implemented the new work permit fees applicable to expats who work in upper and intermediate occupations as well as technical and specialised professions. According to the decision, the new fee structure will cost OMR 2,000 to recruit expats in top positions, OMR 1,000 for mid levels, and OMR 600 for technical and skilled workers.
