MUSCAT: The Authority for Public Services Regulation has stopped granting permits for electrical wiring licence to expatriates and the profession is now limited to Omani citizens.
In a decision issued on Sunday, APSR said that it has also stopped renewing the existing permits for expatriates. The decision is part of the authority’s plan to Omanise 800 jobs and also replace expatriate contractors working in the electricity sector.
“This step comes as a continuation of the implementation of the Authority’s strategy to raise the Omanisation rate in the electricity sector,” APSR said. “We are working with licensed companies to implement this decision which was announced in March 2021, and is expected to be completed at the beginning of July,” APSR said.

“This initiative will create job opportunities for Omani youth approved by the Distribution Rules Review Board and holders of an electrical wiring license to work with licensed electricity distribution and supply companies,” the statement added.
