MUSCAT: Gatherings during Eid Al Fitr holidays have led to an increase in the number of Covid-19 cases in the country, according to the Minister of Health.

Speaking in an interview, His Excellency Dr. Ahmed Al Saidi also warned that all activities will be closed again if precautionary measures are not followed. On Wednesday, the Supreme Committee eased restrictions by reopening public parks, beaches, and gyms. “Covid numbers decreased before the Eid Al Fitr holidays, and gatherings occurred during the Eid holidays led to an increase in the numbers. We hope this rise is temporary,” he noted.

“The activities that were opened will be closed again if precautionary measures are not followed,” Al Saidi warned.

“We hope that the numbers will drop as we are going to start the mass vaccination drive and it is expected to cover 70% of citizens and residents,” the minister added.
