MUSCAT: Oman will extend the gap between the first and second doses of Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine by four months, due to lack of global supply and delay in receiving the Covid-19 vaccines from the manufacturers.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Health said: “The Ministry of Health draws the attention of citizens and residents to the fact that it has decided to extend the period for administering the second dose of the Oxford / AstraZeneca vaccine to four months after the first dose, due to a lack of global supply and the delay by manufacturers in exporting the vaccine.”
However, MOH has clarified that the gap between the two doses falls within the “authorised period” and is effective.

“The Ministry wishes to clarify that the extension of the period between the two doses falls within the period authorised by the manufacturer to ensure the effectiveness of vaccination, as well as within the approved protocols for the Covid-19 vaccine. The Ministry states that all scheduled appointments for the second dose of the vaccine will reach each person via a text message specifying the day of vaccination,” MOH added.
