Over 30% of Oman’s population are overweight or obese

MUSCAT : Nearly 35 per cent of the population in Oman are overweight, according to the Ministry of Health.

In a statement issued, MOH also said 30% of the population are also obese. “Non communicable diseases are a growing burden both globally and in Oman,” Ministry of Health said.

15% of the population in Oman are thought to suffer from diabetes, and two thirds of the population are thought to have raised blood pressure. Earlier in a statement, MOH said cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of all non-communicable disease deaths accounting for 36% of these deaths in Oman.
