MUSCAT: Private sector companies must transfer salaries of employees only using e-banking services, starting from February 28, 2021, Ministry of Labour said on Tuesday.

The decision comes after the Central Bank of Oman directed all banks operating in the country to use online methods to transfer salaries instead of traditional means. “Based on the notice issued by the Central Bank of Oman on January 12, 2021, to oblige all banks operating in the Sultanate to provide an easy and smooth mechanism for transferring salaries and payments through electronic banking services and to stop using traditional ways as of February 28, 2021,” the statement from the Ministry said.

“CBO would like to draw the attention of all government and private agencies/companies that banks will not receive any salary orders and recurring payments by unsecure methods. All government and private agencies/companies must cooperate with banks and adhere to the above specified date to implement this initiative at the national level for the public interest,” the statement from CBO said.
