MUSCAT: More than 22,000 people in the country have received COVID-19 vaccine since its launch in December last year, Minister of Health has informed.
According to His Excellency Dr. Ahmed Al Saidi, 30% of the target groups who took the vaccine are expatriates. The Minister has called-on the public to take the vaccine. “Some people are reluctant to take it because of hearing rumours and misleading information. I have personally taken the vaccine and I did not face any complications. I request everyone to come and take it,” he said.
“If I was not convinced of the vaccine, I would not have allowed it to enter the Sultanate. So far more than 20 million people worldwide have received the Pfizer vaccine and have not shown any serious symptoms yet,” Al Saidi pointed out.

The minister also said currently the vaccines are free of charge. “When the vaccine is available in the private sector, the ministry will supervise the import, distribution and pricing of the vaccine, and in the current period the categories covered by the vaccination are expatriates and Omanis, free of charge, and in the first period 30 percent of the target groups were expatriates,” he added.
