Oman road accidents drop sharply in last five years

MUSCAT : The number of road accidents in Oman has significantly dropped to 66.2 per cent in the last five years, according to the figures released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).

The data issued by the centre reveal that from 6,279 accidents in 2015, the traffic related accidents dropped to 2,120 by the end of 2019. As per the downward trend, figures show there were 4,700 accidents in 2016, 3,800 accidents in 2017 and 2,800 in 2018.

The time rate of traffic accidents have also dropped. According to NCSI,an accident occurs every four hours in 2019, compared to every two hours in 2015.

Meanwhile, a total of 511 people died from road related accidents in 2019 compared to 637 in 2018, while 2,442 have been injured in 2019.
