MUSCAT: Dr. Shashi Tharoor, Member of Parliament and former Minister of State, Government of India graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and Keynote Speaker at the spectacular Valedictory Function of Avenir 2020, the comprehensive career guidance programme organized by Indian School Muscat under the aegis of the Board of Directors, Indian Schools in Oman from 20th to 28th November 2020.
Dr. Baby Sam Saamuel, Chairman, Board of Directors, Indian Schools in Oman extended a cordial welcome to the prolific writer and speaker Dr. Tharoor, and delivered the valedictory remarks by reiterating the solemn purpose of Avenir.
“Despite the pandemic challenges, Avenir 2020 being a completely virtual event has made the best of digital connectivity, which was greatly appreciated by the student and parent community by showing their phenomenal participation throughout the event. The Board’s vision is to motivate and mentor the students towards shaping their destiny. This annual festival of knowledge aims to transform students into competent and confident global citizens,” Dr. Sam said.

Chairman lauded the extraordinary efforts taken by Mr. Ajaykummar Pilaai, President and other members of the School Management Committee along with the Principal and the staff of Indian School Muscat in organizing the event.
Avenir 2020 souvenir was released by the distinguished Chief Guest Dr. Shashi Tharoor. In his speech, Dr.Tharoor urged the students to think beyond borders and be ready to take up challenges that would prepare them for post Covid era jobs. He also highlighted the importance of being sensitive and to work for the welfare of others thus proving to be effective leaders of tomorrow.
”Covid-19 will inaugurate an era of de-globalization. You as the young leaders of tomorrow you should not be just managers but problem solvers and change makers,” Dr. Tharoor said in his Keynote address. In the question-answer session that followed, Dr. Tharoor answered the questions posed by the students.
The event was earlier inaugurated by Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’, Honourable Minister of Education, Government of India in the presence of Shri Manoj Ahuja IAS, Chairman, CBSE, and His Excellency Shri Munu Mahawar, Ambassador of India to the Sultanate of Oman.
The nine-day Avenir 2020 encompassed career talks by high profile professionals from different domains, internationally acclaimed motivational speakers, success stories of illustrious entrepreneurs, insights into developing soft skills to give finesse to one’s disposition and interpersonal relations, and above all, the presentations by more than 50 reputed universities worldwide.
The event consisted of 52 career talks and motivational addresses with a viewership of more than two hundred thousand on YouTube and thirty thousand over ZOOM as on the last day of the event. The YouTube links of all sessions are uploaded on the Avenir site www.aveniroman.com for the further reference of students and parents.
Avenir 2020 ended with an exciting dance performance by the students. Dr.Rajeev Kumar Chauhan, Principal, Indian School Muscat proposed the vote of thanks, reminiscing the nostalgia of the nine-day enriching experience.
