MUSCAT: A project to develop and operate the mixed-use fishing port in Duqm has been awarded to an Omani-International consortium for OMR 50 million, the Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones (OPAZ) informed on Sunday.
The project includes a fishing port with a depth of 10 meters and a length of 1.2 km of berths, a fishing industries complex, logistics services for local fishermen, commercial fishing vessels and livestock ships, and a 75,000 square meter tourist berth.
In a statement issued OPAZ said an alliance of six companies including Fisheries Development Oman (FDO), Al Wusta Fishery Industries LLC (AWFI), Oman Food Investment Holding Company (OFIC), Oman Fisheries Company, Port of Duqm Company and French-based S.E.M. Lorient-Keroman will be part of the consortium.

According to OPAZ, the consortium will pay the usufruct fees, 15% of the annual net profit, and will allocate 10% of the work to small and medium enterprises while “they must also follow the Omanisation percentages approved by the Ministry of Labour,” the statement said.
