To dream is one thing but to realise it is quite another — sometimes time-consuming, often impossible holy grail to accomplish. How about living your exciting, lucid, satisfying dream every day? Not many could be so lucky but there are people, like Capt. Mohamed, whose dreams come true every day of their careers.
“In airline business it’s not strictly an eight-hour job. We are always on the run. We have an exciting team at SalamAir and that motivates us all. “
“If you’re working in the aviation industry it’s hard to emerge out of it. The energy and the vibe it brings is extra special. It’s a dream to fly and every day we realise those dreams.”
Capt. Mohamed Ahmed
Capt. Mohamed Ahmed, Chief Executive Officer of SalamAir, has an excellent track record in the aviation and aerospace industry.
Highly skilled in operations management, airports, commercial aviation, network planning, training and finance, he has been leading SalamAir through its various phases of development by focusing on efficiency, performance and customer satisfaction.
A strong business development professional with more than 30 years of experience, he started his flying career at the Oxford Air Training Academy in 1987. After his graduation he joined Gulf Air where he flew Boeing B737, B767 as well as Airbus A340 and A320. His distinguished record with the airlines led to his appointment as A320 Chief Pilot in 2000.
In 2003 Capt. Mohamed was selected to be part of the startup of Air Arabia Group where he occupied the post of Group Director of Operations and Maintenance in addition to many other roles, including board memberships of several joint ventures and subsidiaries.
During his tenure at Air Arabia he played a major role in the launch of the airline and most of its subsidiaries. He was also involved with the setting up of five new hubs across the Arab world and the Far East. Capt. Mohamed was also Managing Director for some of the subsidiary airlines and companies during his time with the Air Arabia Group.
Since joining SalamAir he has been focusing on the establishment of a stellar management team that can carry the airline through the next phase of growth and profit.
“We have so far carried over three million passengers. There have been difficult times but when you hear somebody saying, ‘We had a great flight,’ it becomes the greatest reward. The past three years with SalamAir have been great. We have developed a team that is second to none. We have been lucky with the support we got both from the stakeholders and the management,” Mohamed says.
As a result several new destinations have been opened and the quality as well as efficiency has been enhanced. Capt. Mohamed is working towards his vision to have a network of more than 50 destinations with a modern fleet of 20 A/Cs in the next five years.
“SalamAir contributed a lot to the local economy in the last few years and it will continue to do so. The airline industry across the world has been hit badly due to the pandemic and we are no exception. But we have managed to hold on by flying hundreds of charter flights, especially to the Indian sectors. The coming months will be challenging, but we will definitely play a great role,” Capt. Mohamed is confident.
