MUSCAT: Diwali — the festival of lights will be a low-key affair for the Indian expat community living in Oman due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The festival, which signifies the victory of light over darkness, good over evil, knowledge over ignorance and hope over despair, involves people decorating their homes with lights.

As gatherings are banned due to the Covid-19 outbreak in the country, most of them are planning for a low-key Diwali. “For the first time, we are preparing to celebrate Diwali at our homes without inviting our friends and family members,” said Akash Patel, a Muscat based resident.

However, major retail outlets, supermarkets, jewellery shops and restaurants in the country have launched festive offers.

Gold promotions:
Malabar Gold & Diamonds, one among the largest jewellery retailers in the country has unveiled their latest collection of jewellery in gold, diamond and precious gems, specially designed for the festive season.

The latest offer gives customers unmatched opportunities to win gold coins for their gold or diamond jewellery purchases. Customers can win a guaranteed gold coin or up to 100 gold coins instantly on purchase of gold jewellery worth OMR 300 via ‘Scratch & Win’ coupons from 06th November until 13th November. Adding to the above, customers also get one gram gold coin on diamond jewellery purchase of OMR 400 and a half gram gold coin on purchase of diamond jewellery worth OMR 250.

“Jewellery shopping is on the rise, due to the new collections launched by us, as well as the price appreciation in the past months. However, every customer now looks for an added incentive to make a purchase, which is why we have created this campaign, wherein customers can get the best designs at the best prices, while becoming a guaranteed gold winner,” said Mr. Shamlal Ahamed, MD – International Operations, Malabar Gold & Diamonds.

Shamlal was quite positive about the upcoming season, remarking that there have been positive changes in the last 10-15 days especially during weekends and holidays.

He also added that on Dhanteras day, all their stores will have extended working hours, to ensure that customers get to safeguard their beliefs and purchase their favourite jewellery, while strictly adhering to Covid protocols
