The shift was also evident in the composition of transactions processed through OmanNet. E-commerce’s share of local transaction volumes rose to 17.5% in 2025 from 13.8% in 2024 and just 0.5% in 2021.
Over the same period, the ATM share fell to 19% from 26.1% in 2024 and 58.2% in 2021, underscoring the changing payment habits of consumers.
Point-of-sale transactions increased by 47.4%, with a total value of RO 4.23 billion, which the central bank attributed to strong adoption of contactless and card-based payments.
POS payments accounted for 63.3% of OmanNet local transaction volumes in 2025, up from 60.1% a year earlier.
Overall, transactions across the three channels increased by 39.4%, with a combined value of RO 8.72 billion. The report said the growth underscored the continued expansion of digital payments and broader financial inclusion.
