MUSCAT : Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) on Wednesday welcomed the decision of the Ministry of Labour to exempt expatriates whose work permits have expired from paying fees and fines.
Eng Redha bin Jumah Al Saleh, chairman of OCCI, said the decision will help to regulate the labour market. “The decision will contribute significantly to adopting new policies to protect the market from illegal employment and reduce the financial burden on private sector companies and establishments as they can reduce the number of workers in light of the current economic conditions,” Al Saleh noted.
According to the decision, expats and their employers are exempted from paying the fines from November 15 to December 31, provided the workers leave the country for good.
