MUSCAT :As Oman prepares to reopen mosques on November 15 amid the coronavirus pandemic, children under the age of 12 and seniors above the age of 65 are barred from entering, a top official has informed.
His Excellency Dr. Mohammed Al Maamari, Undersecretary of Ministry of Endowment and Religious Affairs said the decision has been taken to contain the spread of the virus.
“Children under the age of 12 and elders over the age of 65 are not allowed to enter mosques.if any mosques does not comply with the prescribed measures and procedures it will be closed to protect public health,” Al Maamari said.

The Supreme Committee on Tuesday allowed to reopen mosques that can accommodate more than 400 people after nearly eight months of closure.
According to Al Maamari, an estimated 3,000 mosques will be opened in the first phase. “We are still in the pandemic stage and the Supreme Committee is pursuing a gradual reopening as about 3000 mosques will be opened in the first phase, which represents approximately 30% of the total mosques in the Sultanate,” he added.
