MUSCAT: Fines up to OMR 2,000 will be imposed against those violating the single-use plastic bags ban starting from January 2021, the Environment Authority said.

The rule comes as the country prepares to implement a complete ban on single-use plastic bags from January 2021. Violators will be slapped with an administrative fine of not less than OMR 100 and not more than OMR 2,000 for violating provisions of the environment law.

For repeat violations, the administrative fine will be doubled, without prejudice to more severe penalties as stipulated by Oman’s Environmental Protection and Pollution Control Law.
